Our Artist Profile this month features Zach Gibbs, a talented creator whose love for mixed media
art has led to a successful career at the Blue Umbrella.
Zach’s artistic career began in high school but flourished once he stepped into Ms. Lisa’s art room. Since joining Magnolia Special Services (MSS) in 2018, Zach quickly dove into the world of art, creating, experimenting, and helping others along the way.
He often leans toward abstract painting on canvas but is no stranger to trying new things. From ceramic mugs to fused glass ornaments, his hands have designed several pieces that have made their way to The Blue Umbrella.
His creative curiosity is what makes Zach stand out. According to his art instructor, Ms. Lisa, one of the things she admires most about Zach is his willingness to explore any medium. “He really enjoys exploring the materials, and if he doesn’t have any specific idea in mind, he isn’t afraid to just start,” she says.
Thanks to our partnership with MSS, Zach can share his artwork with the community, and every sale brings a smile to his face. He likes to use his hard-earned money to take his mom out to eat.
Zach’s contributions go far beyond his art projects, and he is often seen helping in Ms. Lisa’s classroom, especially when her younger clients come in for art time. From passing out clay to helping the kids with their art smocks, Zach is a patient leader and a kind presence in every corner of the room.
When he’s not in the art room, you’ll likely find Zach on the field or court with a ball in hand, playing basketball, baseball, or enjoying a game of bocce. A proud Special Olympics athlete since 2018, Zach thrives on the community of team sports and the joy of competition. He’s also an avid sports fan who cheers on the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Dallas Cowboys.
His dream is to one day become a second-grade teacher, but for now, he is happy right where he is: painting, helping, and enjoying each day at MSS.
