If you’ve spent any time in the art room at the Conway Human Development Center (CHDC), you know who brings the warmth: Carol Cornett. Whether she’s stringing beads, helping decorate for events, or offering quiet encouragement, Carol’s creativity is woven into everything she does.
Carol’s favorite artistic outlet is jewelry making. She loves creating bracelets and earrings, often in her signature colors pink and purple. She doesn’t have a preferred type of bead or charm; her joy comes from simply making something beautiful. Over the past year, her skills have grown tremendously. She can now start, string, and tie bracelets almost entirely on her own.
Her creative spark doesn’t stop at jewelry. Carol enjoys learning new crafts, coloring, and even teaching classes to her peers. She has led hands-on workshops at CHDC conferences, guiding her peers through Christmas crafts and teaching candle-making sessions complete with aromatherapy lessons. Carol shines as an instructor, offering step-by-step guidance with calm, quiet confidence.
One of her unique talents is being self-taught in American Sign Language (ASL). She uses ASL daily to communicate with her hearing-impaired friends and often teaches staff new signs and phrases.
Carol says she feels happiest when someone buys her artwork. She is currently saving her earnings toward a personal goal: purchasing an iPad so she can watch makeup and nail art videos.
Through her art, her teaching, and her bright spirit, Carol helps make the Blue Umbrella a place filled with creativity and joy.
